Privacy Notice
Malmo Marine Limited ("we", "us", "our") is building a verified credentialing and recruitment platform for maritime seafarers. This notice explains what personal information we collect when you register your interest through our website, how we use it, and your rights under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020.
We take privacy seriously — not as a compliance checkbox, but because verified trust is central to everything we're building.
1. Who We Are
Malmo Marine Limited is a New Zealand company. If you have any questions about this notice or how your data is handled, contact us at:
2. What We Collect
At this pre-launch stage, we collect only what is necessary to manage our waitlist:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Any additional information you voluntarily provide through our registration form (for example, your seafarer role or region)
We do not collect payment information, identity documents, or certificates at this stage. That comes later, once the platform is live, and will be covered by an updated privacy policy before it does.
3. Why We Collect It
We use your information to:
- Send you launch updates and news about Malmo Marine
- Notify you when the platform is ready for you to create your verified profile
- Occasionally ask for your feedback to help us build the right product
We will only contact you for these purposes. We will not send you unrelated marketing or share your details with third parties for their marketing purposes.
4. How We Store Your Data
Your information is stored in Mailchimp, an email marketing platform operated by Intuit Inc. and hosted on servers in the United States. Mailchimp acts as a data processor on our behalf and is subject to its own privacy and security obligations, including Standard Contractual Clauses for international data transfers where applicable.
We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.
5. How Long We Keep It
We will retain your information for as long as you remain on our waitlist, or until you ask us to remove it. If we decide not to launch the platform, we will delete all waitlist data within 30 days of that decision and notify you by email.
6. Your Rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct any information that is wrong or out of date
- Ask us to delete your information and remove you from our waitlist at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@malmomarine.co.nz. We will respond within 20 working days as required by the Act.
If you are based in the European Union or European Economic Area, you may also have additional rights under the GDPR. Please contact us and we will handle your request accordingly.
7. Cookies and Tracking
Our coming soon page may use basic analytics (such as page view counts) to help us understand interest in the platform. We do not use advertising cookies or track you across other websites. If we add any tracking in future, we will update this notice and obtain your consent where required.
8. Changes to This Notice
As Malmo Marine grows, this privacy notice will evolve — particularly when the full platform launches and we begin handling seafarer credentials and recruiter data. We will notify you of any material changes by email before they take effect.
9. Questions or Complaints
If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first at privacy@malmomarine.co.nz and we will do our best to resolve it.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner at:
